📝 5 THINGS with Alexis N. Johnson
This week, we're thrilled to bring you our latest "5 Things" interview with the incredible Alexis N. Johnson, PR & Head of Social Impact at Beats by Dre. With over a decade of experience spanning sports, media, and entertainment PR, Alexis is a true industry powerhouse.

As PR manager and head of social impact at Beats by Dre, Alexis is the force behind:
🎯 Leading consumer communications for sports and entertainment projects
🤝 Driving the brand's community relations strategy
💫 Shaping meaningful social impact initiatives
📖 Building authentic brand storytelling
Before making waves at Beats, Alexis:
Led PR for Complex Networks' Emmy Award-winning series "Hot Ones"
Started her journey at NFL Media
Graduated from the renowned Missouri School of Journalism
Alexis's 5 Things: Career Wisdom You Need to Hear
1. Post-Grad Internships Are Your Secret Weapon
In Alexis's words: "Most students feel pressured to secure a full-time role immediately after college. You're only a recent graduate for so long, so take advantage and intern as long as you can."
Pro Tip: Think of internships as test drives – they let you explore organizations without the long-term commitment while building valuable experience.
2. Networking Isn't the Monster Under Your Bed
Remember Alexis's first professional happy hour? "I'll never forget agonizing over not knowing anyone and wondering what I would say. Understand that the people in the room are just that - people."
Conversation Starters: Come armed with three go-to topics: a genuine compliment, an industry current event, or a curious question about something you overheard.
3. Guard Your Creative Gold
Alexis learned this one the hard way: "It's natural to want to demonstrate your creativity to a prospective employer. But if it's a concept that you wouldn't feel comfortable being executed without you, consider presenting an alternative."
Reality Check: Your ideas are your currency in PR – spend them wisely!
4. Feedback Is Your Best Friend
"Requesting feedback shouldn't be exclusive to an annual performance review," Alexis advises. "Regularly ask your peers - even journalists - about their experience working with you."
Challenge: Set a goal to ask for specific feedback from one colleague and one media contact each month.
5. Your Job Title Isn't Your Identity
Alexis's most powerful reminder: "While our reputations precede us - and yes, what you do at work matters - it's important to establish an identity outside of a career. Seasons change, and so do jobs - so who are you without yours?"
Mantra to Remember: "I am not what I do; I am who I choose to be."

🔮 The 2025 PR Predictions Report
After gathering insights from our incredible community, clear themes emerged about where PR is headed. Here's what's shaping our industry's future:

AI & Personalization Revolution
"AI-driven personalization will redefine public relations, enabling hyper-targeted messaging based on real-time data analytics. PR campaigns will no longer focus on generalized audiences but will cater to micro-segments with highly personalized content delivered through AI tools."

Media's Digital Evolution
"The media landscape is undergoing a seismic shift, with digital platforms taking center stage. While traditional outlets face declining audiences, social media channels now dominate as primary sources of news and engagement... This transformation is fueled by the convenience, speed, and interactivity offered by digital media, reshaping how content is consumed and shared."

The Rise of Independent Media
"My bold prediction for 2025 is we will see an uptick of worker-led media outlets and independent publications. Legacy media like The New York Times and The Washington Post will always have their place, but there's no denying the growing influence of these non-legacy platforms... We're seeing a shift where smaller, independent voices are making serious movements in how we consume and engage with news."
🏈 Super Bowl LIX: The Numbers & Narratives
With a record-breaking 126 million viewers tuned in, brands delivered messages that went far beyond product promotion during this year’s Super Bowl.
By The Numbers:
$7-8 million for a 30-second spot
2.83B total engagements across social platforms (Dash Social)
$247.8M in media value from in-game logo visibility
Standout Stories That Moved The Needle:
📺 Dove's "These Legs": Purpose-Driven PR Win
When a 3-year-old girl running through her neighborhood can silence a room of 126 million viewers, you know you've struck storytelling gold. Dove's powerful commentary on body confidence, set to H.E.R.'s cover of "Born to Run," showed us how brands can tackle serious issues even in sports' biggest spectacle.

📺 Nike's Return: The Power of Female Athletes
Nike's comeback to the Super Bowl spotlight wasn't just an ad – it was a statement. Featuring A'ja Wilson and Caitlin Clark, the brand proved that authentic representation and powerful narratives can transcend traditional sports marketing.
📺 Pringles' Mustache Magic
Sometimes, the best PR comes with a side of whimsy. Pringles' celebrity-filled mustache adventure with Adam Brody, James Harden, Andy Reid, and Nick Offerman showed that even established brands can surprise and delight while staying true to their identity.
